About Dean And Rog (The Greyhound):
The idea to name a greyhound after radio legends, Dean & Rog, began from a discussion between Gulf Greyhound's Marketing Director, Charlie Fenwick and Gulf's Director of Racing, Jim Ebbs. It was one of those "What If" discussions. But we knew going in, that naming a greyhound was going to be a bit more difficult then it sounded. Could we get someone to "officially" name a greyhound, "Dean And Rog"? Even if we could name a dog, would the greyhound be good enough as a young puppy to compete at Gulf, a high quality race track? How would the real DJ's, Dean and Rog feel? Would they want a greyhound named after them? Rather than getting bogged down with all the questions we felt our only course of action was to go to the source. Set up a meeting with the real, Dean and Rog! So after several phone calls, a meeting was set. As we huddled around a table in a back Clear Channel boardroom, the deal was solidified. Dean and Rog loved the idea! So the hunt was on. Find Dean and Rog a greyhound. Jim Ebbs called a long time Gulf Greyhound supporter, breeder and kennel owner, Russ McElhinny. McElhinny loved the idea. As soon as a greyhound became available, we would have our dog!
Dean And Rog was whelped February 17, 2003, along with one (1) other brother and four (4) sisters, in a litter totaling six pups. Dean And Rog will run out of Russ McElhinny's kennel, the LQK Kennel which is currently ranked fourth, for in the money earnings for 2004. Dean And Rog will be trained by Cam "Hotrod" Hawkins.
